I am not the skinniest girl.
I am aware my back is deformed slightly.
I’m aware I’m covered in stretch marks.
I’m aware I’m unattractive.
But I’m proud of who I am. It took some time and it took a lot of doing. But I’m here today and I’m going to attempt to tell you a little of why.
I discovered Rise just before the Sufferer came out. It wasn’t what I’d normally listen to but it completely captivated me. It took me over.
I was going through mental and physical abuse at the time and my mum left shortly afterwards. I had nothing. I self harmed to blur the edges and I listened to music as my release. It was tough. But this one line, out of everything, kept me sane. He told me that if I survived, I could tell my story.
From that, I could prevent it happening to someone else. I could save a life. While I don’t think ive saved lives, I do think I’ve been able to help my friends become stronger and aware, and that is good enough for me.
I was fortunate enough to meet him in November 2011, where he gave me a hug and signed my ticket and side. He liked it and told me so. I cried all the way home.
I finally thanked this man for saving my life.
So yeah, I’m not perfect, but I wanted to show the world how proud I am and how thankful I am.
